Tseqwtsúqum̓ Build to Begin this Spring
The fencing is up, a Líl̓wat Construction Enterprises sign is in place, and Líl̓wat Business Group (LBG) is ready to start building Tseqwtsúqum̓ (Chek-choo-koom), a mixed residential-commercial development in Whistler’s Function Junction.
Tseqetsúqum is the Ucwalmícwts name for this area that translates to “lake surrounded by fertile marshlands” in Líl̓wat Nation’s traditional language.
Owned entirely by Líl̓wat Nation, Tseqwtsúqum̓ will yield signficant revenues for the Nation over its lifespan. Located at the entrance to Function Junction, the Tseqetsúqum̓ development will be led by Líl̓wat Construction Enterprises.Located at the entrance to Function Junction, the Tseqetsúqum̓ is LBG’s largest undertaking to date. In addition to providing ongoing revenues for Líl̓wat Nation, the project will yield a variety of job opportunities for Nation members.
The 5.3 acre site will feature three buildings that will create much needed long-term, workforce housing with the amenities needed to support this growing community. These amenities will include a fuelling station and potentially a major chain grocery store. (See below to view the site cleared for Tseqwsútum̓.)
Initially developed as Whistler’s industrial park, Function Junction has has evolved into a vibrant neighbourhood. Tseqwsúqum̓, with its variety of one-, two-, and three-bedroom housing units, will add to the vitality of this growing community.
A land blessing ceremony is planned for later this spring and will signal the beginning of this build. LBG will be publiciziung this event as soon as the details have been confirmed.
