- Levi is helping to bring a native plant nursery project from an idea to reality
Can you tell us a little about yourself, who you are and your background?
I moved to Pemberton last winter to start working with LFV. Before that, I was living in Vancouver, finishing my Master’s degree and playing music with my band. I spent a lot of time biking around the city, playing at small clubs, and working on my thesis in the library. Now, I spend a lot more time in the mountains and wake up a little earlier.
Why were you interested in a career in forestry? How did this journey begin?
I was just out of high school and didn’t really know what I wanted to do. I knew a few people in forestry, including my dad, who used to be an Arborist, so I decided to explore it. At the time, I had a night job as a music and concert photographer in Vancouver, so I chose to study forestry at the University of British Columbia while continuing that work. It felt like the right path.
Interesting! What is your current role at LFV?
I’ve been working at LFV for just over a year. I help run our silviculture surveying and planting programs. I am also currently coordinating the construction of a native plant nursery. The plants and trees grown there will be used to support restoration work in areas affected by landslides and wildfires.
That sounds great! What do you enjoy most about your work?
I enjoy the variety. One minute I might be working on budgets for the year, and the next I could be planting trees or operating equipment. The nursery project has been the most fulfilling part so far. Being involved in designing it, deciding what seeds to collect and grow, and planning where restoration will take place has been really interesting to me.
What is an accomplishment you’re proud of?
Although the nursery is still in progress, taking it from an idea to something that is actually being built is something I’m proud of. I’ve had a lot of support along the way, especially from Leon and Hayden. Those guys are awesome!
Outside of work, what are some of your hobbies?
I spend a lot of time playing music and am currently recording songs with friends that we plan to release later this year. I also enjoy skiing, rock climbing, boxing, and mountain biking.
Anything else you’d like to add about yourself or working with LFV?
LFV is a great place to work. I’m excited to see where things go over the next few years and feel grateful to be part of the team.
Thank you, Levi, for your work supporting restoration efforts and for helping advance LFV’s silviculture and nursery initiatives.
