Líl̓wat Forestry Ventures Join SISCO Fall Field Tour
(October 1, 2024, Lílwat Nation) Between October 1 – 3, 2024, Klay Tindall, General Manager of Forest Operations for Líl̓wat Forestry Ventures (LFV), and Jordon Gabriel, LFV’s Lead Forestry Technician, will be featured speakers at the Southern Interior Silviculture Committee (SISCO) Fall Field Tour in Pemberton, B.C. This annual event brings together professionals to engage in meaningful discussions about silviculture and forestry practices.
“This year, we wanted to explore the ecological transition zone between Interior forests and Coastal forests, and Pemberton provided the location for such an opportunity,” shared April Anderson of SISCO.
The 2024 tour will welcome attendees from diverse regions, including the East Kootenay, which is a dry Interior forest ecosystem, the West Kootenay which has both dry and wet forest ecosystems, and also from the Cariboo and the Coast. The field tour features topics that are relevant to forestry practices throughout the province regardless of what ecosystem they practice in.
SISCO is especially pleased to have Líl̓wat Nation and LFV on the program to showcase Indigenous forest management principles and practices, on the ground.
Throughout the tour, Tindall and Gabriel will delve into innovative silvicultural systems designed to address cultural and other values and further discuss historical silviculture prescriptions aimed at wildfire mitigation.
“We are looking forward to attending and being a part of this year’s SISCO Tour, engaging in meaningful discussions on forestry management practices that reduce wildfire risk to communities and silviculture practices that protect Indigenous cultural uses and traditions,” shared Tindall. “By sharing knowledge and fostering collaboration, we can ensure that these lands are cared for sustainably, benefiting both the environment and our communities.”
